France

France is called the cradle of intercultural mediation. In Europe, it occupies one of the most important places in terms of immigration from a demographic, cultural and economic point of view. At present, the principle of Ius Soli, adopted in 1998,  March 16, allows all those born in France to automatically become French citizens.

There are around  4.000 active social and intercultural mediators and approximately 600 interpreters within the social field. The  certificate as mediator may be achieved  through a long-term training or after a process of validation of at least 3 years work experience within the same field.  The interaction between practice and training makes  possible professionalisation both for the person and the workplace.
